Latest Short Code services - 27/11/2007

PageOne announces the launch of the latest Short Code services for businesses and local government.

PageOne, the UK’s foremost supplier of wireless SMS messaging services has announced today the launch of the latest evolution in text messaging with the introduction of low tariff Short Codes aimed at the business community and local governments who are looking for new and innovative ways of keeping in touch with their customers.

More and more people prefer to use text messaging as a way of communicating, and now with the introduction of free text and standard text tariffs, businesses and local government departments are setting up short codes to enable people to request a catalogue, report graffiti or a faulty street light, for example.

Working in a similar way to free phone and local rate telephone numbers, these latest short code tariffs will reduce costs of handling in bound calls for companies and council offices and at the same time enable people to text instantly when they may see an advert or problem on the street.

One billion text messages sent every week in the UK - 05/11/2007

According to the Mobile Data Association (MDA) 4,825 billion messages were sent during September 2007, an average of over 1,2 billion messages every week, staggeringly, the same number of messages sent during the whole of 1999.

The research shows a 25% growth compared to 2006 and has caused the MDA to revise it annual predicted total figure from 48bn to 52bn messages in 2007.

UK businesses have woken up to the potential of SMS, and PageOne has seen significant increases in companies communicating with customers and employees via SMS. The phenomenon which PageOne describes as ‘Consumer Interactive Messaging’ (CIM) seeks to simplify complexity and compatibility issues, using simple and effective technology that works on every phone, at home or abroad. All levels of society (young & old) continue to embrace texting, providing a more convenient communication medium.

The MDA also suggests that the growth in SMS shows no signs of abating, and the UK sits within the top six of the Global league of countries sending text messages.
